Resumen

TREVINO, Esthela. La iteración de eventos. Acta poét [online]. 2004, vol.25, n.2, pp.149-183. ISSN 2448-735X.

This article explores the idea that verbal forms such as lee y lee (Lit. 'read and read'), occurring in expressions similar to Sara está lee y lee esa carta (Lit. 'Sara is read and read that letter), constitute an additional non finite verbal form in Spanish, which I call the iterative. It is shown here that the iterative forms possess certain morphosyntactic properties that prove that they yield a complex verbal head, and not a syntactic coordinate structure. In addition, it is also shown that the iterative exhibits some distinctive lexical semantic properties which distinguish it from other forms with the meaning of iteration, such as those deriving from certain lexical verbs, and certain uses of the gerund. The conclusion arrived at, is that the iterative is a complex verbal head with a distinctive aspectual content, one which subsumes succesive subevents, each with terminative aspect.
