GARZON FONTALVO, Eveling y JIMENEZ MARTINEZ, María Isabel. Event and result nouns in support verb constructions in Latin: the case of aedificatio, insitio, conspiratio and inflatio. Nova tellus [online]. 2023, vol.41, n.1, pp.199-222. Epub 31-Mar-2023. ISSN 0185-3058. https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.nt.2023.41.1.2300s01x09.
In this article we analyse if certain deverbative event and result nouns appear in support verb constructions in Latin and of which type they are. Specifically, we study four verbal nouns: aedificatio ‘building’ and insitio ‘graft’, which allow both an eventive and a result reading; conspiratio ‘conspiracy’, which only functions as an event noun; and the result noun inflatio ‘swelling’. This analysis will allow us to show that both types of nouns participate in support verb constructions and that, consequently, this fact is not a useful criterion to make the difference between them.
