There is a manuscript located in the Fondo Martínez Briceño of the Instituto Caro y Cuervo’s Library of Colombia, cataloged with the number 3, which is divided in two great sections; in the second section, there is a text entitled Arte poética de Horacio, written in Spanish. This article analises the cultural environment in which that text was produced and the appropriation that was made of the Horace’s work; identifies its nature; undertakes some reflections on education during the Colonial period and, finally, offers a literal transcription of the manuscript.
