The Philebus is a very complicated dialogue, with the subtitle “About Pleasure”. Among other topics, the text is about true and false pleasures; in other words, there arises the problem of truth and falsehood of emotions and feelings, which is obviously false. Nevertheless, Plato insists on this point, and in the course of the work, the reader will notice that the predicates “true” and “false” are treated in a no common way. The reason of the insistence on true and false pleasures is Plato’s opposition to hedonism and all types of subjective ethics.
