Abstract

RIO TORRES-MURCIANO, Antonio. Forced Heroes. Rhetoric and Epic in Virgil and in Valerius Flaccus. Nova tellus [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.1, pp.145-157. ISSN 0185-3058.

By comparing two speeches of Jason (Val. Fl. 1.194-203, 241-251) with the speeches of Aeneas on which they are based (Verg. A. 4.333361; 1.198-207), this paper shows the way in which Valerius Flaccus exploits rhetoric in order to move away from Virgil.

Keywords : Ancient epic; rhetoric; Virgil; Valerius Flaccus.
