HERRERA ZAPIEN, Tarsicio. Mexican Heirs of Vergil: From Landívar and Alegre to Francisco Cabrera. Nova tellus [online]. 2012, vol.30, n.2, pp.153-185. ISSN 0185-3058.
Poets with a Classical taste enjoy imitating some words or turns of phrase from their most celebrated predecessors. Thus, repetition of words like umbra, silentia, dolorem, monumentum, is frequent in them. Furthermore, they repeat dactylar superlatives, words in ablative case and the epiphora -que. From Virgil to Alegre, Abad and Landívar words like tempestatesque appear often. It deserves some mention that the most recent of our Classics, Francisco José Cabrera, first studied humanities with the Jesuits, then law at UNAM and, once retired, he crafted eleven notable Neo-Latin poems.
