In this paper a series of rhetorical arguments devised within the political frame of the Athenian hetaireiai of the V and IV centuries b. C. is analyzed, which are based on the ethos as an argumentative strategy for and against Alcibiades, the celebrated Athenian politician and strategist. The aim of this study is to explore how a political profile is defined -in reference more specifically to Alcibiades-, looking at the matter from the boundary of speech where the frontiers between judicial and deliberative speech genres vanish away, while the public and the private spheres coalesce.
