ORELLANA, David; SEGOVIA, Nuria y RODRIGUEZ CANOVAS, Belén. Student dropout in online higher education programs: literature review. Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2020, vol.49, n.194, pp.47-64. Epub 27-Nov-2020. ISSN 0185-2760. https://doi.org/10.36857/resu.2020.194.1124.
Dropping out in online higher education has multiples and interdependent causes. This paper is based on a literature review from 52 college dropout factors between 2004 to 2019. Results show that the most influential factors to online dropout relate to previous academic performance, age, gender, personal circumstances and online and self-directed learning skills. Finally, it is discussed some strategies to reduce online higher education dropping out from these factors and promote the persistence, and it is offered a few recommendations for future research.
