SANDOVAL ROMERO, Vanessa. Origin and development of scientific evaluation. Scope and limits of application in social sciences. Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2020, vol.49, n.194, pp.27-45. Epub 27-Nov-2020. ISSN 0185-2760. https://doi.org/10.36857/resu.2020.194.1123.
A documentary analysis of the relevance of scientific evaluation within the research system is carried out from two perspectives: the norms proposed by Robert K. Merton and the scientific fields developed by Pierre Bourdieu. Both approaches head to a better understanding of the normative system of science, the relations of power and the exchanges that occur in the scientific field. We expose the elements of the system of recognition of scientific works, the socio-historical development of peer assessment since the creation of the first scientific journals in the XVII century and its evolution to its current application to institutions and countries. The scope and limits of quantitative methods of evaluation are analyzed, as well as the place they occupy within the research system.
