Though specific studies do not exist about students from rural sectors who join the higher education institutions in Chile nor their academic paths, it is possible to affirm, from other studies, that there has been a strong increase of this type of students in the different Chilean universities in the last decade. In spite of this expansion, their academic and labor future turns out to be uncertain in reason of the high rates of failure and early abandons, situation that needs the design of retention politics, and human-academic funding.
