In this article a general view of how the mexican higher education system has evolved is provided in order to observe the education offer in non-metropolitan areas, with special regard to private institutions. Undergraduate programs as well as Master's and Doctorate programs in certain fields of study are reviewed in detail to analyze what kind of institution offers them and if they fulfill the minimum quality criteria required.
