This essay presents an analysis about the evolution of the private higher education in Mexico, during the two most recent decades. The analysis perspective wants to assess this type of educational offer development and calls the attention to the need to discuss the social function that must be fulfilled in an environment characterized by an insufficient and unjust distribution of the educational opportunities. The suggestions derived from the reflections contained in this text tries to feed the public debate on this topic, fundamental actions to advance towards ideal solutions.
