SALCINES, J. Venancio y FREIRE, María Jesús. El valor económico de la educación a través del pensamiento económico: Desde el Mercantilismo hasta Alfred Marshall (siglo XIX). Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2010, vol.39, n.153, pp.53-64. ISSN 0185-2760.
This article shows assessment given to education by different economic schools until the 20th century. In the 16th century, new modern states spreading education from aristocracy to higher bourgeoisie, tried to create human capital in order to improve public administration functions. National competitiveness notion linked education with economy since the 18th century. Absence of complex factory processes prevented the spreading of this connection beyond Smith theoretical world. The Neoclassical, immersed in the first industrial revolution, observed education like just another component of business capital.
