This work analyzes the growth of The Higher Education System in Sonora over the past three decades. In this expansion process enrollment plays an outstanding role not only as the factor that allows such amplification of the system's dimensions, but that also favors the diversification of tertiary education. This diversification can be clearly appreciated in the sectors that integrate the system, which are examined considering their areas of knowledge and educational levels.
