Resumen

An analysis on the performance trends of the teaching staff, by area of knowledge and level of training is presented, according to the opinion of 2001-2004 students, and results obtained in the 2001-2005 performance Incentive Program (from the Spanish, Programa de Estímulos al Desempeño Docente, ESDEPED). Besides, it was proven that no significant difference exists on results of the variable of teaching competence among levels of training. According to ESDEPED results, it was observed that only some areas of knowledge and levels of training of teaching staff show growing trends on teaching performance variables. There is also a significant difference between levels of training of teachers in all areas of knowledge in teaching and research variables, with PhDs as the highest rated, moreover, significant differences were found among areas of knowledge.
