Abstract

MUNGARAY, Alejandro; OCEGUEDA, Juan Manuel  and  MOCTEZUMA, Patricia. Demanda de educación superior y especialización económica en Baja California. Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2006, vol.35, n.139, pp.31-48. ISSN 0185-2760.

The higher education enrollment in Baja California is determined by the ruling type of productive specialization. Functions of higher education demand are estimated for each area of knowledge and their corresponding careers in terms of enrollment, based on indicators of the economic structure. The econometric exercise conducted indicates that the most significant variables are those related to sector based production and employment and with maquila related activities. Nevertheless, identification of particular characteristics associated to the types of economic specialization defined by different patterns of demand of professio-nals is possible. Contrary to the common idea of analyzing demand of higher education from the standpoint of general functions, this exercise determines functions of higher education demand according to sector based orientations of the different professions.

Keywords : Labor market; professions; enrollment; graduation.
