This article presents the results of an investigation aimed towards understanding the teacher’s conceptions and concerns regarding the training of engineers at the National Technological Institute of Mexico. In order to do this, we carried out a qualitative methodological approach from a hermeneutical point of view, articulated with theoretical tools of political discourse analysis. We identified and analyzed the teachers’ conceptions and concerns, regarding the training processes they develop, which have been published in several articles in specialized journals. Among the results, we found that teachers have a heterogeneous understanding of the meaning of both “training” and “engineering”, however, there is a predominance to understand engineering from an operational-instrumental perspective that tends to result in the reduction of the training process.
