Cyberbullying is a complex issue which affects the psychosocial development of adolescents. This study undertook to analyze the differences in personal, family, scholastic, and community variables among students with and without cyberbullying behavior. A sample of 1,488 high school students in Sonora was selected randomly, 669 (45 percent) male (M age=15.88, SD=2.20 years) and 819 (55 percent) female (M age=15.78, SD=2.22 years). The results of the logistic regression model showed that empathy, parental support, teacher support, and community assets lowered the probability of cyberbullying, whereas domestic violence and traditional bullying favor cyberaggression. These findings suggest that prevention of cyberbullying in adolescence should include interventions focused on promoting socioemotional development and strengthening the social support (parents, teachers, and communities) available to adolescents.
