This study analyzes the degree of nationalism of trainee teachers in early childhood and primary education in Spain, considering Michael Billig's banal nationalism model as its theoretical basis. The research consisted of qualitative and quantitative analysis of a questionnaire answered by 148 future teachers. Significant results of the broad degrees of nationalization and its invisibility as a sociological and ideological reality that is assumed and perpetuated in apparently banal narratives and practices were obtained. The vitality of the nationalism in trainee teachers, in progressively more transnational contexts, is a fundamental element for reflection, as they will become agents and transmitters of national values and myths in the education system. Following the analysis, methodological alternatives are presented to overcome the nationalizing function of the teaching of History, including notions of epistemology and theoretical critique in the school curricula.
