Resumen

CRUZ FLORES, Gabriela de la  y  MATUS ORTEGA, Diego Ilinich. “Why did I go back to school?” School dropout and return experiences from high school students. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.165, pp.8-26.  Epub 16-Abr-2020. ISSN 0185-2698.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iisue.24486167e.2019.165.58713.

The purpose of this qualitative study was to analyze the experiences of the students who returned to high school. To collect data the authors used the technique of focus groups working with eight groups studying professional technical degrees all of them located in areas of low social development in Mexico City. The design of the study allowed to explore the causes of abandonment associated with individual and intra-school factors. The narratives reveal that some experience in the labor field generated a reflective process in the participants about their future, which rethought their expectations about education. This type of reflexive processes allows young people to as sume greater autonomy and responsibility in decision-making. These experiences of young people who return to school can be very valuable to mitigate possible causes of school dropout from the educational action.
