Abstract

This research paper seeks to pinpoint the factors associated with educational achievements in the sixth grade of primary school in Nuevo León, Mexico. The sample size was of 4,207pupils, contained in the database of OREALC/ UNESCO’s Third Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (Tercer Estudio Regional Comparativo y Explicativo, TERCE. A conceptual theoretical model relates the factors of parents’ education level, number of Household members, family professions, teaching work, violence at school, school textbooks, to learning achievement, which was analyzed using a modelling technique with structural equations. The conclusion was that improved learning is linked to higher levels of parents’ education, proactive teaching, classroom texts, and family activities. School violence and a larger number of household members is related to a decrease in learning performance.
