Abstract

This article explores transformative experiences in higher education in South Korea and Chile, with emphasis on achievements in expanding coverage and some effects on the perception of educational equity and quality. Especially worth highlighting is the importance of demographic tendencies, privatizing efforts, the investment of resources in the sector, culture and some particularities in higher education systems, as factors that explain the observable differences between these two nations. Some reflections for Mexico are presented with regard to the magnitudes and risks of expanding higher.
