The authors present the results of a study on the Tecnológico Universitario del Valle de Chalco-TUVCH (Technological University of the Chalco Valley), an institution similar to technological universities (UT) in Mexico but that operates with private funding. This analysis is focused on the student experience under the TUVCH’s educational and institutional model, how they experience and perceive the model, how their experience influences their professional development and what it means to them in their first insertions into the workforce. The information was generated using qualitative methodology based on interviews and focus groups with 23 students (approximately 30% of the total from each specialty) and 25 alumni from the six specialties; professors and university executives were also interviewed. The results illustrate differential processes of adaptation to the educational model depending on student profiles. In the interest of accounting for the singularity of this institution, the authors provide a series of considerations for improving a few key dimensions.
