RODRIGUEZ-IZQUIERDO, Rosa M.. Beliefs about interculturality and intercultural educational practices of university students of social education in the Spanish context. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.152, pp.128-145. ISSN 0185-2698.
This article analyzes the beliefs of university social education students in the Spanish context, in regards to the notion of interculturality and how educational practices should be carried out in multicultural contexts. The methodological approach of this study is qualitative and the research techniques used for data collection were an open-ended questionnaire and in-depth interviews. Content analysis was the main technique employed for content analysis. This study concludes that the majority of students identified interculturality with immigration, which they tend to associate with problems or deficits, particularly linguistic or communications problems. In addition, students identified visible aspects of culture but it was difficult for them to be able to recognize the more invisible aspects of culture such as gender or religious or political beliefs. In addition, they approached intercultural educational practices from an efficacy perspective, finding it hard to associate it with ethics.
