The social construction of the concept of difference underlies the current educational practices and lays the foundations of the educational programs currently in force. The difference is also the backbone of several programs such as educational integration or intercultural education, nevertheless its application emphasizes the diversity in schools and this emphasis may conceal a new way of discrimination by contributing to the strengthening of the marginal minority status that they actually want to eradicate. This concept is designed to generate hierarchical systems that tend to create new hierarchies, so equality or inequality have to do with ethical precepts, something that can not be given or taken away according to the dictates of a specific society. From this point of view, difference can be read as a tool to justify inequality.
