Abstract

WEISS, Eduardo. The students as young people: The subjectification process. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2012, vol.34, n.135, pp.134-148. ISSN 0185-2698.

This article presents the theoretical reflections about the object of study analyzed in the research line "Young people and school" developed by the author with his Master and PhD students. These researches, which focus on high school contexts, try to overcome the still existing division between the studies about students and the studies about young people; that is why here the students are considered as young people. The theoretical approach is that it is not enough to deal with the young and student life from the concepts of sociability and sociabilization, and therefore the author proposes to focus also on the subjectification process, characterized by the distance with regard to the norms and values, the development of likings, interests and abilities of their own, the reflection and decision making. In this subjectification process the diverse experiences, the encounter with the other and the conversations are essential, because those practices are the starting point of the experiences and identities of young students.

Keywords : Students; Young people; Socialization; Subjectivity; Identity; High school education.
