Abstract

OCHOA CERVANTES, Azucena. Primary education teachers' knowledge and opinions about the subject of civic and ethical education: The case of Queretaro, Mexico. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2011, vol.33, n.134, pp.115-135. ISSN 0185-2698.

Taking the primal importance of the teachers in all curricular reform as a starting point, the author made a research with as purpose to investigate the knowledge possessed by primary education teachers about the study program of the subject of civic and ethical education and to know the training process that they have followed to teach this subject and their opinion about the matter. She carried out semi-structured interviews to 50 teachers of the urban area of Queretaro, Mexico. The results show that, despite the comprehensive reform of basic education is is already up and running, teachers have very vague knowledge of the subject and give evidence of their lack of a training process able to help them to implement the new programs, and more specifically the programs of civic and ethical education.
