ZANOTTO, Mercedes; MONEREO, Carles  e  CASTELLO, Montserrat. Reading strategies and the production of academic texts: Reading in order to assess a scientific text. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2011, vol.33, n.133, pp.10-29. ISSN 0185-2698.

This study has as purpose to identify, describe and analyze the reading and writing strategies put into practice by five expert readers and writers who are members of a committee or examining board, in order to assess the suitability of a research work. The readers made use of the verbal protocol technique for the revision of the document and the resulting data were analyzed with Atlas/ti. The analysis unit matched the strategic sequences (SS) made up by the depiction of the problem, the solution process and the productions that are carried out. The results showed different strategic approaches: the A reader focused on the assessment of thematic contents; "B" paid attention to the research of information; "C" tried to complemt the text's contents; "D" focused on the prevision of the information that would be presented in the document and "E" on the in depth understanding of the content. The results provide criteria to assess the research documents and also help to emphasize the relevance of strategic reading and writing for the training of researchers.
