Resumen

SANCHEZ HERNANDEZ, Samuel; GRAJALES ALONSO, Ignacio  y  GARCIA REYES, Enrique. A tool for the diagnosis of reading abilities of the students of the degree course of Nursing at the Universidad de la Sierra Sur, UNSIS. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2011, vol.33, n.132, pp.108-124. ISSN 0185-2698.

At the Universidad de la Sierra Sur (UNSIS), Oaxaca, a group of professors-researchers was made up in order to improve the quality of the students reading abilities. The research consisted in the planning of a specific tool able to diagnose the reading abilities to be applied to the students of the degree course of Nursing. To draw up this tool they found support in the Discursive-Interactive Model established by Dr. María Cristina Martínez Solís, Director General of the UNESCO Chair for reading and writing in Latin America. This research turned out to be exploratory, descriptive and transversal and the tool was put into practice on a random sample of 63 first semester students whose answers were subjected to consistency proofs; this allowed to set up groups and to achieve satisfactory results with correlative values of ca. 0.7. Some proofs were developed in order to measure the liability of the results, comparing with random answers, which gave as result square chi (X2) higher than 400 in each group, for 83 freedom degrees.
