This paper is part of a wider research on the field of education in Mexico, this is why the information it contains only reports part of the data gathered about the field's growth with regard to the number of researchers who have been joining it during the last eight years. The final purpose of this research is to obtain specific knowledge about the structure and the dynamics of the field of Educational Research (Investigación Educativa, IE) thorough the analysis of the number of researchers who make it up in the whole country. In this article the author also offers an analysis of the origins of the field of educational research in Mexico and of the number of agents who belong to the Mexican Council of Educational Research (Consejo Mexicano de Investigación Educativa) and to the National Researchers System (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores).
