This study is part of a wider research called "The co-construction of educational meanings in a learning community", which has as purpose to deal with the transformation of the classroom culture to the current time of research. The study analise the first day of school in a university course, aiming to investigate the meanings that are built by the participants, one teacher and his/her students, and to identify some of the rituals and principles which shape the context of activity, the authors propose several axes of intervention related to the co-construction of a learning community based on the historical-cultural model, which at the same time represent the mentioned analytic categories. They also present several sequences of the dialogues performed during the classroom interaction, showing the teacher's intention for the attribution of new meanings for the educational rituals prevailing in the institutional culture. They also debate about the pertinence of the model starting from its potential upon the intervention at school and its theoretical significance in educational psychology.
