Abstract

CARLOS GUZMAN, José Jesús. How effective teachers teach psychology? An exploratory research. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.123, pp.8-26. ISSN 0185-2698.

Several studies show that psychology is taught in a fully traditional way, and this makes necessary to look for new ways to teach it. To that purpose the author carried out in-depth interviews to 15 teachers of the UNAM's Faculty of Psychology who are considered by the students as "good" teachers. The interviewed teachers showed the pleasure they feel while teaching and their will to reach a good interpersonal relationship with the students and to encourage feedback; finally they expressed a great commitment and a pedagogical responsibility. The author also analyzes the contributions of research on the curricular design for teacher training and the advantage of taking into account within it other elements besides the strictly institutional ones.

Keywords : University teaching; Teaching of psychology; Teachers' special features; Proficiency teaching; Ways of teaching.
