Abstract

FORTOUL OLLIVIER, María Bertha. The conception of teaching shown by last year students of the degree course in primary education in Mexico. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2008, vol.30, n.119, pp.72-89. ISSN 0185-2698.

This article presents part of a research about the pedagogical conceptions shown by students who are about to finish their degree course in primary education at public teacher training schools in Mexico. The central question of our research is what does teaching mean for those students. This descriptive research is based on surveys as data gathering technique and questionnaires as essential tool. The gathered data were analysed following quantitative and qualitative proceedings, on a sample of 297 students (which means 7.5% of the concerned population). The answers given by those students show they consider teaching as an activity that is normally carried out within the classroom and that is made basically of knowledge transfer in order to achieve learning for the students. To this consensual answers, according to the author, it is important to add a great variety of other answers that refer to very diverse conceptions of teaching.
