Resumen

GOMEZ PATINO, Raúl  y  SEDA SANTANA, Ileana. What pre-primary teachers believe about assessing their pupils: a case study. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2008, vol.30, n.119, pp.33-54. ISSN 0185-2698.

This work presents the first results of a wider research on the same subject. After a careful revision of literature and a detailed explanation of the followed methodology, the author shows that the results seem to suggest amongst kindergarten teachers contrasting beliefs about assessment: 1) qualitative and formative assessment; 2) quantitative assessment, which is recognized by the parents and 3) assessment by means of exams. She discusses the fact that, in spite of the existent of beliefs that can be considered compatible with the general view about curriculum assessment, the prevailing beliefs are that a traditional assessment is better because it makes the children's learning evident for their parents. As a conclusion, the author asserts that those different views can be the result of the challenges that mean for kindergarten teachers to authenticate learning by means of a qualitative approach of assessment.
