An important and distinctive feature of the educational reforms is the "innovation" matter, which, although it means a real challenge, to be executed uses to be accompanied by a kind of compulsivity that hinders its strenghtening and its conceptual revision. This article is based on a hypothesis: ¿does the competence in education approach really mean an innovation or does it just appear like a real change? The purpose is to reach a conceptual articulation of this word able to characterize the defining features of competence in education and, from a more paedagogical point of view, to situate precisely its applications within the field of curriculum.
