During the last decade, the postgraduate studies in Mexico have been growing and expanding constantly; however, we must take into account a heterogeneous distribution in the country, amongst the institution that impart them and the features of their respective enrollment. In this article, the author deal with a general description of the current situation within the Social Sciences postgraduate programs in México, with an approach to the regional expansion of those programs, a general characterization of the way in which postgraduates programs have been working in a specific geographical area, and to the occupational situation showed by the students who graduated from those programs. The data informed in this paper are taken form a study about the occupational situation of students who graduated from regional postgraduate programs in Social Sciences in six federated states located in the central-southern area of the Mexican republic: Mexico State, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala.
