Resumen

FOLLARI, Roberto. Argentina: el acceso a los posgrados como urgencia reglamentaria y sus efectos en la dirección de tesis. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2002, vol.24, n.95, pp.7-22. ISSN 0185-2698.

The boosting of postgraduate studies has been part of the modernization carried out in the Latin-american universities for the last two decades; in Argentina, this can be verified since the nineties by means of university assessments, differential wages for the faculty, programs with subventions of the World Bank, etc. Its insertion has been kind of sudden and this has led to a wide academic market, since master's and doctor's degrees are paid by the students. One of the consequences of this situation is that there has been an institutional preference for lessons instead of dissertations, since the latter should begin to be carried out when the students stop paying. The result is that only 50% of the posgraduate students obtain their degree. On the other hand, the teachers don't get fees to promote dissertations. The promoter thus has to find his own way through not codified knowledges to deal with the student, to confirm the choice of the subject, to help him/her to determine the object of study, to give him/her methodological support, amongst other activities.
