Science education research has had poor attention to the scientific conceptions of the university teachers and researches in science. There are few papers about epistemological, historical and new approaches to science teaching that university people have. In this work we present an exploration about the science conceptions of the teachers and researchers in the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM). The results show that, in general, teachers and researchers analyzed have very little knowledge about these educational and philosophical issues. These results can partially explain the problems and low attention that science education has received in the UNAM.
