This article seeks to demonstrate the transformation of the historical discipline throughout the 20th century. This process affected two aspects of historical knowledge: it introduces a loss of theoretical centrality that previously defined its cognitive nature and produced a diversity of research styles and modalities, which led to a reconversion of its methodological order. The author's thesis considers that this transformation can be explained by exploring the complex relationship history established with the field of social research.
