TERRAZAS Y BASANTE, Marcela. New Approaches to a Critical Period. A Window onto the Book and Newspaper Production of the Last Thirty Years on Relations between Mexico and the United States, 1822-1848. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2007, n.34, pp.5-27. ISSN 0185-2620.
The initial period of relations between Mexico and the United States parallels a critical stage in the establishment of their States. In both cases, the danger of the dismembering of the federations loomed and the bilateral agreements and disagreements were not divorced from this process. The subject of several works, both general and monographic, throughout many decades of the 20th century, the study of the link in the decisive years ranging from 1822 to 1848 continues raising interest and generating bibliography. But what are the questions contemporary historians make of this period of binational relations? What are the new issues and innovative lines of research? How does contemporary historiography cope with the challenge of providing a solution for them? What resources does it employ? This study casts an impressionistic glance at recent literature to find some of the answers.
