ALANIS ENCISO, Fernando Saúl. Going Back Home. The Repatriation of Mexicans in the United States during the Great Depression. The Case of San Luis Potosí, 1929-1934. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2005, n.29, pp.119-148. ISSN 0185-2620.

This essay examines the repatriation of Mexicans from the United States back to San Luis Potosí during the Great Depression (1929-1934). The study analyzes the ways in which this repatriation took place, the living conditions of this people being back at their home-towns, and the position taken by the state's government. Above all, it shows the fashion in which much of the people that came back, due to the unemployment, the hunger and the deportations effectuated in the United States, was rapidly absorbed by the local economy and society -including a considerable number of Mexican-origin American minors that arrived with their families-. In this process there were two major factors that played an important role: the relatives of the repatriated, and the conditions of the Mexican economy at that time.
