Abstract

LACADENA GARCIA-GALLO, Alfonso; GARCIA BARRIOS, Ana  and  MORALES UH, Raúl. The finding of ceramic fragments of Chocholá style with hieroglyphs in Oxkintok, Yucatán. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2018, vol.52, pp.105-116. ISSN 0185-2574.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ecm.2018.52.959.

During the 1996 and 1998 field seasons, several ceramic fragments of Chocholá style with hieroglyphic inscriptions were found at the archaeological site of Oxkintok, Yucatán. The importance of these findings is great, since it makes possible to associate the ceramic style archaeologically with Oxkintok, possibly being one of its main producing centers. The presence of a name in one of the fragments, cho-lo-ma, Cholo'm, with rank of sajal, allows us to attribute to Oxkintok a series of vessels so far without known origin, and that mention the same character. At the same time, it offers new information about the internal political organization of the Late Classic site and the geographical distribution of this title in the Northern Lowlands.

Keywords : Oxkintok; Chocholá vessel; Late Classic; Maya; sajal title.
