GARCIA BARRIOS, Ana. El dios Chaahk en el nombre de los gobernantes mayas. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2007, vol.29, pp.15-29. ISSN 0185-2574.
The rulers from the Classic Maya period sometimes used god's appellatives as part of their personal names. Chaahk names are very abundant at that Period and we can get from them important information regarding the powers and attributes of the Rain God as about the relationship that is generated between the ruler and the god when choosing a particular name. Most of these names represent celestial actions, although Chaahk is related to the tree levels of the maya cosmogony: infraworld, supraworld and terrestrial. These appellatives are recognizable since Early Classic and remain in use during all the Post-Classic and Colonial periods. For all that, this is a new perspective that allows us to know better the essence of Classic Chaahk.
