Resumen

BISHOP, Ronald L.; SEARS, Erin L.  y  BLACKMAN, M. James. A través del río del cambio. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2005, vol.26, pp.17-40. ISSN 0185-2574.

Considerable archaeological activity has focused on the events that led to the depopulation of the civic and religious centers in the Maya core area. Hypothesized causes of the so-called "collapse" frequently have invoked the notion of invaders "sweeping" up the Usumacinta from a Gulf Coastal homeland. Past ceramic compositional investigation using data derived by neutron activation analysis have concentrated attention on production sources of Fine Orange and Fine Gray pottery in the Tabasco region and sites to the south, located along the Rio Pasión. Recently, we have completed analyses of a set of fine paste pottery from Yaxchilan, which permits us to integrate events and influences that were taking place along the Middle Usumacinta. This paper reviews what is currently known of this region during the time of Fine Gray and Fine Orange introduction -at time at, during, and immediately after the collapse of the great Maya polities.
