This study analyzes two episodes through which the Chamorros of Guam rebuilt their cultures, traditions and ethnic identities. First, the complaints of the congregantes of the Confraternity of Our Lady of Light against the Jesuit Franz Reittemberger for molesting. Secondly, the revolt of 1829 against the arbitrariness of Governor don José de Medinilla and Pineda. However, it was not until nineteenth century that mestizo Chamorros, rendered invisible by the crisis of colonial policy, actively claimed a role as political actors in overseas peripheral areas.
