Abstract

CONTRERAS RAMIREZ, Cecilia Paz. The Transversalization of Gender Perspective in the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences: The Gender Unit Project, the Eradication of Gender Violence and the Path to Substantive Equality. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2020, vol.65, n.240, pp.233-259.  Epub Feb 28, 2021. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2020.240.76629.

Universities are spaces for the production of critical knowledge, especially when it comes to gender issues and the various forms of inequality between the sexes; however, they have also been institutional spaces for the reluctance to incorporate a gender perspective, not just from the standpoint of scientific activity but also transversally through their legal instruments, formative processes, administrative aspects and institutional culture in general. This article presents the Gender Unit project of the Political and Social Sciences Faculty as a strategic space for the transversalization of the gender perspective in its different dimensions, covering academic and administrative aspects in order to eradicate gender violence. Through an exhaustive analysis of documents and reports from the faculty, the work on gender issues since 2016 is examined, arriving at the conclusion that institutionalizing the gender perspective at UNAM contributes to the development of an education that seeks to achieve equality and the full exercise of human rights, so that all forms of violence against women can be eliminated.
