Abstract

MADRIZ-SOJO, Gabriel  and  SAENZ LEANDRO, Ronald. Political Science and Cinema: Political Analysis from a Discourse Theory Approach. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2018, vol.63, n.233, pp.141-167. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2018.233.59076.

The article discusses and vindicates the role of cinema as an object of study for Political Science. It describes the scientific status of current or contemporary Political Science, and how both the traditional Political Science and the Political Communication’s mainstream have disdained the study of cinema. It also explores the contribution of Essex School’s Discourse Theory for political analysis and its key conceptual framework. Finally, the authors propose an analytical strategy or procedure for a political analysis of cinema based on Discourse Theory, and offer a reflection on its epistemological aspects.

Keywords : analytical strategy; cinema; Discourse Theory; political analysis; Essex School.
