GOMEZ VILCHIS, Ricardo R.. Trust in Congress and Public Opinion: The Mexican Case. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2018, vol.63, n.233, pp.117-139. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2018.233.59483.

Lack of confidence in democratic institutions can cause citizens to “bet” on a return to an authoritarian regime. In Mexico, how much does the citizen trust Congress, compared to other institutions? And, most importantly, what determines citizen confidence in Congress? With a database of Barometer of the Americas (LAPOP, 2014) including 1 100 observations, this article uses ordinary least squares (OLS) models and finds that the main determinants of confidence in Congress are the attitude of the citizen toward democracy as a form of government and his perception of corruption among public officials.
