Resumen

TENENBAUM, Gabriel. Infraction of the Law and Renunciation: Families' Influence over Adolescents in Conflict with the Law in Mexico City. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2016, vol.61, n.227, pp.195-221. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.1016/S0185-1918(16)30026-5.

Families have been and are a topic of debate in criminology and in the sociology of delinquency regarding their direct and/or indirect influence on law infraction by adolescents. This article is placed within that debate, through the analysis of family histories of adolescents in conflict with the law in Mexico City. Its aim is not to place blame nor to bring about the families' quota of responsibility in these illegal acts, but to account for the family context that allows for the "cornering process" that leads adolescents to show a larger exposure to the risk of committing an offense. The text seeks to elucidate the family's impact on adolescent infraction, and to critique the judicial process regarding the activation of the paradox of the family as origin and destiny.

Palabras llave : criminology; sociology of delinquency; adolescents; family; exposure to risk.
