This article aims at tracing a cartography of several of the roads taken by Latin American literature throughout the last fifty years, from the Boom of the 1960s, to the new generation of writers that today set the narrative course of the continent. The text analyzes the relationship among the diverse literary trends that flourished during the period and the social, economic, and cultural processes that took place during that same period; it emphasizes the characteristics of present day Latin American narrative and addresses some of the main topics it covers.
